Marching Band Arrangements
Being a huge fan of both OverClocked ReMix and marching bands, I once dreamed of the ultimate halftime show featuring video game music.
While this pipe dream never became reality, I did arrange many different tunes, from video games and otherwise, for band ensembles during my brief tenure as a Music Minor at Auburn University. Seeing as I dropped out of the program before its completion, these might be the ONLY products of the time spent in the minor. :-)
While these spent a long time gathering dust on a mostly unused external hard drive, I’ve finally gathered them all together and posted them on the internet, for all you budding young band nerds to convince your band directors to let you play.
I make no claim to the copyrights for any of this music. If you own the copyright and want me to remove something, email me at steven.clontz@gmail.com and I’ll remove the offending piece right away. Otherwise, I’m making these arrangements available freely for anyone to perform or improve upon. Some of them have sheet music available in PDF format, and others only have a Finale MUS file available.
I hope you enjoy the labors of my youth. :-)
- Metal Mario from Super Mario 64 for Pep Band (Finale MUS and Adobe Reader PDF files)
- Cleverly entitled “Invincible”, I imagined this as an offensive cheer for a football team. Perhaps after a broken tackle for a big gain?
- Katamari On The Rocks from Katamari Damacy for Marching Band (Finale MUS and Adobe Reader PDF files) (Listen to the MP3!)
- Also cleverly retitled, to “Katamari On The March”, this was my piece d’resistance. My first attempt at marching band arrangement, and maybe my best, this is the one I still get emails about now and again. So here it is. Please note that you should probably take out the “War Eagle” snippet if you aren’t from Auburn University. :)
I have to give major props to Christopher Nelson, aka Rainman DX, who arranged the percussion parts for me. I also have to apologize again to him that the song was never actually performed. :-)

- Back 2 Back from Sonic Rush for Pep Band (Finale MUS and MP3 files)
- I am now reminded that I retitled nearly all of these, ala OCRemix. This one I called “Louie’s Rush”, because it was kind of a mashup between Louie Louie and Back 2 Back. I included the game’s theme, “A New Day” at the end. Listening to it again after a long time, I think it was actually much better than I remembered. Not to imply it’s terribly great, nonetheless. ;-)
- Super Mario Bros. Theme for Trombone Quintet (Finale MUS file) (Listen to the MP3!)
- This one I wrote for the Trombone Show, an old tradition of the AUMB Trombone Section (also known as Theta Beta Nu). It (hey!) was never actually performed, but it sounds pretty cool. The beginning is a straight-up transcription, but I took the original three-part song and added an extra part above and below what you’re familiar with. I hope you enjoy it!
- Come On Eileen for Marching Band (Finale MUS file) (Listen to the MP3!)
- Now for something completely different. I don’t remember what particularly inspired me to arrange this song, but my roommates probably do remember being royally pissed off at hearing me listen to the song repeatedly, humming it to myself, and hearing my stupid Finale playback over and over again. It has the distinction of being the last thing I ever arranged; these days I’ve moved on to other projects it seems.
- Snakes On A Plane Theme for Marching Band (Finale MUS file) (Listen to the MP3!)
- I can’t remember this song’s actual name at the moment. “Bring It”? Whatever. Cobra Starship provided 2006 with this little gem to go along Samuel L. Jackson’s masterpiece. A little bit of trivia: this is the only piece of music on this page which was only created in order to facilitate my chances of making out with a girl. While this might seem non sequitur (the existence of ANY of these arrangements can only hurt my chances, I’m sure), I did end up dating said girl for a semester or so. This arrangement was the most romantic thing I did for her in that time, however; so it probably comes as little suprise that it didn’t work out. :-D
Oh! About the arrangement itself? It’s pretty cool. Although nobody cares about Snakes on a Plane anymore (I can’t think of a meme that did a poorer job withstanding the test of time), this would have been rather amazing had a marching band played it back when it was relevant. (A good band, anyway.)
